History of rubber science and technology in Bulgaria (1919-1947)

Abstract

The paper examines the development of science and technology of rubber in Bulgaria from its inception to its nationalization in 1947. The founders of the first rubber processing workshops in Bulgaria immediately after the First World War are listed, among which the name of Ivan Slavov Gevrenov stands out. He is the founder of the first serious rubber processing workshop in 1919. Special attention is paid to the fate and biography of this interesting man. The development of the rubber processing industry in Bulgaria in the period between the two world wars is also considered, indicating the largest enterprises in those years, some of which at European level, producing articles (e.g. aircraft tires), which we do not currently produce. Attention is also paid to the pioneers in the field of rubber science, among which stands out the name of Prof. Petko Nikolinski, graduated from the Technical High School in Munich, Germany (1927), after which he remained there as assistant professor of the Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry for 1930, Professor Hans Fischer.
